Evan Almighty

Directed by: Tom Shadyac
Starring: Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman, Lauren Graham, John Goodman, Wanda Sykes, Molly Shannon

In a nutshell:The story of Noah with a modern twist.

For more?:Evan Baxter was a newsman in Baffalo who was just elected to Congress, with his promise, to change the world. And he sure did. Just as life was improving and overwhelming, Evan thanked God for all that he has and hopes that God would help him out, and surely, God did. Soon, he wakes up at 6:14am, has a 614 car plate, hears 614 and it never ends, GENISIS 6:14. He gets parcels of tools and wood and hair and beard that never gets off and soon enough, he 'bought' 8 lots of land and animals follow him in pairs. God then tells him that the flood would begin on sept 22 mid-day. Soon, he loses his job and family and becomes the laughing stock, but he didnt give up. He continues building the ark and the animals help him, soon, his family returns and helps him with some words of knowledge from God. On sept 22 mid-day, it was all clear skies and Evan started loading the animals and his family goes aboard. It did rain, but little, causing the people to laugh even harder, thinking it was a seriously stupid joke. Soon enough, it turned out that the dam that the corrupted Congressman Long was in charge of, with the materials that didnt pass tests and everything else illegal, couldnt stand the weight of the water and soon all of the town was covered in water. The people were on the Ark and Congressman Long gets his own desserts.

Seriously?:it's meaningful. and nice.

job-hunt.

these days the majority of phonecalls i get are from the agencies and companies.
recruit express,
kelly services,
etc.
thing is i'm feeling broke.
this month alone i've watched 5 movies.
and it seriously too much for my allowance.
yah, so i need to find a job.
but yet,
i dont know if i could work for such a long time.
vacation's 7 weeks.
and uncle's coming.
see? i'm a fussy job begger.
bleahs.

today's last day of school for yr3.1.
also last day of internship.
am tired.
and feel like snoozing.
and am extremely happy.
cos it means i dont have to clock in and clock out everyday.
and stone the hours in between.
i know it's supposed to be fulfilling.
and much rather to say we're actually free-labour cos we dont do much.
but i'm happy that i'll soon have the freedom to do what i want to do.
and no time constraints; such as 9-17.30.
see? it's bliss.
out of the tp 'prison'.

Hairspray

Directed by: Adam Shankman
Starring: Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Allison Janney

In a nutshell: Retro Fantastic.

For more?: Tracy Turnblad is pleasantly plump and she and her best friend Penny Pingleton loves the Corny Collins Show, a teen dance show. When one of the council kids of the show is going on a leave of absence, auditions for replacements were held and Tracy wouldnt miss the audition for school. However, she didnt get through due to her body size and her support for integration. One day at detention, she learns R&B dance moves from seaweed which catched the attention of Link Larkin, who suggested she dance on the Corny Collins Show and that might just earn her the spot. Tracy manages to get a spot and her popularity increase, much to Velma's dismay, who wants her daughter, amber, to be the star of the show and win Ms Hairspray. Also to Amber's dismay that Link seems to grow fonder of Tracy. Velma and Amber then try ways and means to ruin Tracy's life. Also, with Tracy's support of integration, she suggests Maybelle and the others to stage a protest march for integration. Velma then informed the police of who might be the mastermind of it all. Tracy is soon a wanted person and with the help of seaweed and the others, she manages to reach the studio on time and did a dance number with Link. Seaweed's sister, Inez, was then voted Ms Hairspray. It was also official that the Corny Collins show would be integrated. Corny and Maybelle then begin co-hosting the show together and getting all their dancers together and Tracy and Link finally kiss.

seriously?: I absolutely love John Travolta. He did an amazing job in this movie as Tracy's Mom. Also the songs are somehow fun and it also fulfills the good over evil factor. And i seriously didnt know that Amada Bynes could sing.

License to wed

Directed by: Ken Kwapis
Starring: Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski, Eric Christian Olsen, DeRay Davis

In a nutshell: A great movie to teach couples about ways to better understand each other.

For more?: Love. it's all about the first meetings, thn getting to know each other, thn living together and then getting married. but if everything seemed too fantasy, look out for the wedding part. because in order for you to get married at St. Augustine's, you have to get through the prenuptial course by Reverend Frank. That means homework, bugging the apartment, no sex, robot babies and good 'communication', blindfolding the driver to give directions? But still, happily ever after, after a few glitches here and there.

seriously?: the movie's got comedy, shows how couples should understand each other. well, it's quite evident that it attracted the right people since the cinema was filled with mostly couples. and it's freaky seeing how the Reverend tried ways and means to i dont know if it's testing or sabotaging their chances of getting married.

happy ending.

This is the way you left me
I'm not pretending
No hope, no love, no glory
No happy ending
This is the hardest story that I've ever told.
No hope or love or glory
Happy ending's gone forever more
-mika.

sometimes i would suddenly think that perhaps she's just gone overseas.
but i know that i have to get over it.
it isnt going to change anything, being sad and crying and all.
and life still has to carry on.
sighs.

no matter what, she will be remembered.

i lost a friend.

my dear friend passed away on 13 August 2007.
she hasnt even reached her 19 birthday.

i heard the news from mstan yesterday. that weichoo passed away 2 weeks ago.
we skipped church and went to ntuc simei (where we worked together) to verify.
and then we went to where her ashes were at.
and we saw her picture.
it was true.
she has passed away.
and i'm never going to be able to see her again.

i always thought that i was going to be able to see her during the holidays.
and the pictures we took together would look even better the next time we took them together.
but there is no such chance anymore.

i still cant get over the fact that i would not be able to see her anymore.
i always feel like tears are welling up once in a while but i refuse to let them down.

she was so young, full of aspiration.
i know and have heard the reasons of her commiting suicide.
and i so hope that i called her on that day.
but everything's over.
and i know nothing's going to change.

i miss her.
i will remember her.

bring in the chilli-padi-s

no, i'm not in some spitfire mood.
it's just certain things that people do i just cant agree.
it's all the time that the govt. has been trying so hard to induce all that knowledge and culture and stuff.
but nobody actually really remembers them.
i dont really see the frog but only on trashcans.
and i dont really see any of the lion only on trains.
and sighs.
i thought it was a rage when i was younger..
time has forgotten them too?

nobody helps the old lady carrying all her bags and barely climb up to the bus to her seat.
nor is anyone helping the pregnant lady who desperately needs the seat for her 5 year old kid.

and the worst of all.

everybody squeezes into the lift that the wheelchair bound lady couldnt get into at the train station.

so seriously,
what is the basic, most logical thing to do?

this weekend is the last we could do any packing.
house is still in dust mode.
and the paint on the ceiling's falling off.
seems like it got worse ever since the 'professional' did our ceiling.
when dad did it it was only bits.
now it's almost like 'slabs'.

1 more week to the end of sip.
tht day would also be the teacher's day celebrations at sec sch.
but i doubt i'll be able to go and see any teachers.
cos i still end at 5.30pm.
just that it's the last day that sch ends at 5.30pm.

i just heard from mom that auntsay and family's going to jakarta to attend a wedding.
granny's going to be at home.
i miss her so much since sip's taken up much of my time.
and weekends were dedicated to mp stuff and more packing.
sighs.

let next week pass smoothly.

relief?

the hardware's finally working.
cos the old one died and couldnt be saved anymore.
so the technician changed it for a new one.

yesterday was funny.
we walked around the whole of parkway clueless.
but seriously i so need the retail therapy.
partly cos i was tempted by mstan.

i watch high school musical 2.
i still prefer the 1st.
why is it a trend that sequels arent always fantastic.
but the 3rd would be.
it's this skipping thing.
like always 1st- nice, 2nd- not as nice, 3rd-fabulous.
haha.
okay.. i'm feeling lame.
and weird.
and tired.
but still..
haha.
i want to watch hairspray, ratatouille, no reservations and evan almighty.
and i'm going broke.

this is sick.

the week hasnt been smooth..
or happy.
or anything.
i'm feeling so tired.
why??
monday was shitty.
i left the house and only remembered i didnt bring my matric card (the thing to clock-in and clock-out).
thn i had to get off the bus and walk home and get it and thn wait for the bus again.
thankfully i wasnt late.
tuesday was even more shitty.
the hardware was alr a little mad on monday.
thn when i brought it to sch on tuesday morning. it was weird and slow.
and thn when i used it again in the afternoon, microsoft word was mad.
thn i wanted to open internet explorer, it wouldnt open and showed me that internet explorer needs to close sign.
i mean, sheesh, u didnt even open.
sick.
thn i decided to restart the computer.
and it wouldnt move and got stuck.
and when i switched on the com again.
the hardware officially died on me.
now all it writes is :"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file."
ok. this sucks.
so from 2pm yesterday i couldnt use the computer.
and the technician wasnt in his office the whole afternoon yesterday.
and so, we figured asking the technician today, wednesday, would be a better idea.
and he's still nowhere to be seen.
sighs.
and the worst thing of all is according to schedule, fuling was supposed to bring home the hardware yesterday and use it today.
and she cant cos it still shows that same bloody message.
sighs.
i feel bad.
cos it's from yesterday.
sighs.
shitty.
it's only another 10 days (including today) to the end of the sip/mp.
and this has to happen..
and there's also an individual report we have to write on sip.
and i have no idea how to write it.
and 1500-2000 words for a report like that is madness.
another 10 days to write it.
sighs..
argh.
it all feels so bloody shitty

anticipation

'why?', if you may ask...
because in 2 weeks.. say hello to the vacations!
muahaha.
and i'm going to sing the high school musical song..
the 'what time is it? summer time'...
okay, i'm getting mad.

seriously, when you have been stuck in school 9am-5.30pm everyday for 4 months.
that seriously sounds fantastic, fabulosa.
haha.

and packing went okay.
still dusty and everything.
throwing loads of stuff away.
it feels great when the house feels lighter..
or emptier.

21st anniversary

was supposed to go to church..
but had a really bad tummyache throughout the night.

today is the church's 21st anniversary.
and i still got the souveneir.

the cover of the box.

the inside.

today's also the chinese valentine's day, 七夕情人節 (2007農曆7月7日).
and so the legend goes...

in short, in chinese legend it says that the 7th month and 7th day of the lunar calender is the day that niu lang (cow man *oops, direct translation*), who looks after the cows, meets with zhi nv (sewing lady), who sews for the palace(that is said in heaven) and is also the youngest daughter of the jade emperor . the reason why they can only meet once a year is due to their negligence in doing their jobs when they fell in love, and so the jade emperor passes down a decree to say they could only meet on that particular day.

catched 'License to Wed' with mstan/
and we went so early that when we went in it was totally empty..
and therefore, we started doing crazy things again. (pics are a little too dark)

then got fall out boy's 'infinity on high' and mika's 'life in cartoon motion' cds.
have been thinking about getting them for a long time.
and that faithful day when i decided i would get one, there's this $11.90 thing for each cd.

is an eventful day.
yah.
haha.
erhmmmmmss.

1. 1st day of the 7th month on the lunar calender.
freaky.
i agree.
tht explains the outrage of horror movies.
to give double the scare.
or double the effects.

2. Nicholas Teo (Zhang DongLiang) 's concert.
you would know it was a crazy fans event when you had to queue again for seating.
and cos we had mp/sip so we could reach there any earlier than 5.30pm/
and imagine the queue alr.
anyway, they gave out a nokia 5700.
and da jie got it!
haha
then he chose his princesses to have dinner with him the next day,
record company gimmick.
so he picked 3 numbers from tp to go against the other 3 from the day before.
thn they had to blow balloons to get the chance to answer the questions to become his princess.
and then 3 became his princesses.
yeps.
thn he sang 4 songs.
thn it was over.

singing. it was extremely crowded (548 ppl, 548 tickets), we sat on the stairs.

fan effect.

3. Doughnut randomness.

it ended fairly early (7.30pm) and i didnt want to go back that early and wasnt feeling particularly hungry..so i called up mstan and asked if she wanted to queue for doughnuts.so we went to raffles city, and then someone told us that we might not be able to get it,and seriously the number of those left there, we seriously wouldnt be able to get any.so we decided to try our luck at suntec.and as we got nearer to carrefour, we saw people carrying orange boxes and we were afraid the shop would be closed (since most shops were like closed and empty),so we ran all the way there.haha, yah, we ran.and i'm positive the people must've thought we were mad.then we got a dozen each and a waiting time of not the usual 2 hours but only 10 mins.
madness.

2dozens.

sighs.

yesterday was packing day.
loads of stuff to pack.
i realised that although we threw loads of stuff for cny this year,
there's still loads more.
and it's madness.
sighs.
then we had dinner at sakae.
and it was crowded.
and i saw a number of absolutely cute babies!
(:
so sweet, adorable.
then we went for a small shopping trip.
and i got a top.
which i wouldnt get on my own cos of the price tag.
and which i thought my mom would never get me.
and surprise! she did.
(:

today's service was sweet.
and it's always nice to know that the fcbc spirit is still there.

go with the treble clef?

Johann Pachelbel
Baptized in September 1, 1653 and died in March 3, 1706.
He was a German Baroque composer, organist and teacher.
and he has a really great composition too.

Pachelbel's Canon By Johann Pachelbel , also known as Canon in D major, or more formally, Canon and Gigue in D major for three Violins and Basso Continuo (Kanon und Gigue in D-Dur für drei Violinen und Basso Continuo)

people love this song.
it's the song that's (almost) always played at weddings.
no matter anime, movie, plays, drama serials and even comedies use this song.
sometimes even some parts of the pop or rnb song you're playing in the cd player seem to have some little bits that sound like this song.there are others who use all sorts of instruments to play it and put it on the web.

in short, this song is alr the ultimate superstar on its own.

and it is also so popular and nice and famous that there are tons of arrangements to this song.

some easy or well, not so crazy...

and those that takes a little more practice than the rest.

nevertheless, the middle most signature part of the piece is still prominent and beautiful.
and i wonder, how's the score like since it was originally for 3 violins and basso continuo.

remember the 1 hour wait for the complimentary ticket?
here's it.

i thought i should get a picture of it before part of it gets torn.

august is a star-struck month.

never thought it'll be the last year of tp that i did this.
well, it's the last year so i should add some more memories to the 3 years in poly.
today i and peinee and fuling queued for 1 hour for complimentary tickets to nicholas teo's concert.
and yah, he's coming to tp.
and the queue was madness.
and we were alr quite behind when we went there.
but there were still other ppl queueing behind us.
and it was crazy.
people screaming their throats to get attention.
others screaming cos of joy that they finally got the ticket (definitely die-hard fans).
there was this mock red carpet thing and even cameras and security officers where they gave out the tickets.
and when you go up there it's like receiving some award.
it was crazy.

it's on monday.
hope it'll be great. (:

and definitely,

Happy Birthday Singapore!

it ends on 8 aug 2007.

bay beats @ esplanade was rockin'
although we only managed to see one performance.

simpsons movie was madness funny.
it was crappy.
haha.
but still seriously funny.
it's so silly.
and i love the pig./spider-pig.
and somehow i am happy that the quiz showed that i'm like bart simpson.
haha.

wedding buffet.
ended up not eating anything but fruits.
cos i and mom bought some stuff back and alr felt full.
sighs.
but it's interesting.
cos i realised that my mom's side of the family is quite large.
and there are people that we dont really know.
ok.
weird, awkwardness.
perhaps.
but still it went okay.
and congrats.
haha/
oh and it was a block away from home.
haha/

september is definitely a month to look forward to.
cos there's high school musical 2. (not disney channel though, it's faster there. it opens in aug for disney channel).
there's it started with a kiss 2.
and most importantly....
the HOLIDAYS!VACATION!FREEDOM!

courtesy is the key.

the past week has passed by exceptionally quick.
definitely faster than the times when i was in school the whole day.
but much more tiring.
because these days i couldnt stay awake after 10.30pm.
and i even sleep at the best parts of the shows i was watching.

we've been doing our audits.
and just started on surveys.

audits
monday- was at tampines.
since i was in charge of the audit there.
it was my turn to sit on the wheelchair.
and go through what the wheelcair bound have to go through from the bus interchange to the mrt station.
not only the physical movement part, stares are added to the package too.
the route was okay.
well, at least the people did move to make way.
but still.
too much of the curious stares start to feel not like concern.
i mean when we were going to grab a bite, and we were folding the wheechair to put it somewhere.
ALLthe aunties at the counters at the mcdonald's at the bus interchange stopped whatever they were doing and we looking at us.
staring at us.
yes.
and not getting the orders from the people queuing up.
is there seriously a need for that?

tuesday- was at bedok.
pei nee was on the wheelchair.
the people at bedok were friendlier.
things were getting on track.
perhaps due to the experience we had the day before.
we managed to finish everything faster than the day before.
and everything went more smoothly.

wednesday- was at toa payoh.
fuling was on the wheelchair.
thing went even more smoothly.
other than the setting up of the stage and exhibition thingy.
which caused in massive sound damage.
it was spanish songs the whole time.
and it was a booklaunch and photo exhibition for the next day, 2aug2007.
guest-of-honour? none other than mr president.

surveys
thursday- went to an association and asked for help.
and then we went back to toa payoh to interview/ask some people to help us fill up the surveys.
it started well, with staff from a home helping us fill up the surveys and giving really helpful advice.
and we managed to finish 9.
and thn it was time to get star-struck.
we saw rui en, chen hanwei, and another actor.
we were wondering what was the occasion.
and then remembered the book launch thing.
which guest-of-honour is the biggest man of all of singapore.

friday- wasnt very fruitful.
there want a single person on the wheelchair at tampines.
decided to head back to school.

i am missing my cousin.
